It seems like the only time that employees get really mad over security awareness is when they’re forced to interrupt their work to participate in something they don’t enjoy or believe in.

We want to flip that, by making them so mad at the people behind the horrible crimes that they’ll want to do everything in their power to stop them. Maybe even get even with them, take some of that power back.

That’s our leverage, and the deep personal and emotional motivation to make security awareness almost matter more than anything else.

WE TALK ABOUT:

  • How security awareness is little more than adopting a handful of good and permanent habits, and how easy that can be.
  • Why a personal motivation is key to changing those habits and why there is so much personal motivation for you to tap into.
  • Why your biggest motivation should not be focused on following policies or passing tests, but on protecting all of us from some of the most evil people on this planet.

For example, how the people behind the attacks on your workplace are often the same kinds of people, and in many cases the very same people, who are:

  • Targeting the elderly with some of the most life changing and devastating crimes,
  • Targeting teens with sex torsion crimes that have cost dozens of these young victims their lives.
  • Behind the horrific crimes of pig butchering and human and sex trafficking,
  • And interfering with and disrupting our hospitals, schools, financial systems, elections, and trust.

WE ALSO TALK ABOUT:

  • Why in spite of the rise in AI aided crime, AI is still no match for HI. Human intelligence.
  • Why in spite of feeling powerless against these global criminals, something as simple as security awareness is an easy way to take some of that power back.
  • What habits we’re talking about and how easy it is to flip them from bad to good.
  • How to fight the global threat of deepfakes by focusing on little more than context.
  • The psychology of crime, how our personality traits can make us more vulnerable, and how to spot those traits in ourselves.

Fun(ish) Facts

Tulane University once played excerpts of Neal’s security videos on the jumbotron during college basketball games throughout National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Neal’s first security awareness program consisted of just four words – Mind What You Say – and designed to combat the threat of phone surveillance.

While still in his twenties Neal won the first ever contract to encrypt Ireland’s entire national ATM network.

Neal delivers his security message to a global audience from a centuries old thatched cottage in the middle of the Irish countryside.

CNBC INVESTIGATES

“This crime is not just financial,” said Kathy Stokes, director of fraud prevention programs at the AARP Fraud Watch Network. “Some people have everything taken from them, and they’ll still say the emotional impact is the hardest.”
